Backyard Buddies

It’s been over 3 years since I last posted here. Life has been going by so fast and the days have been so busy. I often think of things I want to share, and struggle with what exactly I want this blog to be about. Recently, I have had some time to think about that, as I have been out of work since January (I even gave the old girl a little make-over). With everything that is going on in my country and in the world right now, I have decided that this blog should continue to be about what it always has been — things that bring me joy. Granted, my last post was about destruction but sometimes you have to share those stories, too!

Right now, my only readers are the Russian bots trying to leave comments on my posts, but if you come across this blog I hope you’ll enjoy my recaps of life here in Rhode Island (and wherever I may travel)!

Today, I wanted to share some backyard friends (I feel like Bob Ross when I say that). I am one of those Gen Xers who have taken to watching for my buddies at the bird feeder. I have even installed trail cams in our yard. I also installed one in our neighborhood’s shared space and was getting some incredible shots… until someone stole it. People are no fun.

We’ll start with still shots today. Here are some of my favorites from this past Winter.

Woodpecker Blue Jay Grackle Cardinal Robin Squirrel

The woodpecker is fun to see when he’s out in the trees like that; not so much on the house and causing damage (we will need to have that assessed this Spring)! I eventually put out an owl figure which seemed to scare him away, but I am glad it found a better place to hang out. It also enjoys the food at the bird feeder, as do they all — especially the squirrel. I did purchase a “squirrel proof” feeder, but it figured out how to eat, although not as fast as with my last feeder!

That’s all for today; just wanted to share a few photos. I am hoping to be back on soon with some more interesting stories. Until then, be well and take care of each other.
